Tough Breaks

Well I finally broke my left thumb nail, my right hand had already broken weeks ago and is growing back nicely. Anyone who is into natural nails knows that these are inevitable. You can do all the preventive maintenance in the world and still breaks will happen when your nails get long. However, it is painful, not just physically, but mentally. Nothing that is worth having comes without work and it is work maintaining long, healthy nails, it is a lifestyle change and means doing everything different with your nails in mind when using your hands. It will grow back, this too shall pass, but it is so devastating when it happens. It will even mean changing some of my manicure ideas for the next couple of weeks until it grows back to a normal length. The break was so low that part of my skin is exposed. I tried the silk bandage and glue for a week or two but it just had to be constantly reapplied and made the nail look bad.

I JUST broke the nail on my right thumb, it was about 4 hours ago! I super-glued it back because it was repairable thankfully. Otherwise I would have super thin nail tips that would be low on my nail bed and take months to grow back. I understand how frustrating it is when you are trying to keep long nails!

Awe, sorry to hear that - it DOES suck!!

I am finally letting mine grow out a bit (I usually snip them very short) and now I am just waiting for that break to happen. Ugh.

I am so sorry to hear that. I hate when that happens! ThoughI keep my nails short for work now, I still remember what it's like to break one and have to decide whether or not to cut them all.Ugh.

Thanks for your comments, I'm definately not going to cut them all though, its not that crucial for me. I don't work or live in Hollywood and don't have to be perfect by any means. I have the longest nails of anyone I know in my general contact so its all good.

So sorry about your nail. I love that I can come on these blogs and sympathise of get sympathy over a broken nail. No one else cares much. I'm taking Biotin and it's really helping with my nails. I hadn't had much nail growth in years. All my nails did was peel and crack. Now they are almost healed and I believe it's due to the Biotin. I've been taking it for 6 months now. You don't look like you have any problems growing nails!
